A La Carte café is located in the waiting area of the busy Artificial Limbs Units at Rookwood Hospital. Where it provides a valuable service to patients, visitors as well as staff of the hospital. Trainees learn about food preparation as well as all the associated tasks of working in a small café environment. This is a very real, work based training setting.
Trainees attend A La Carte from 9am -3pm
Trainees at A La Carte learn to prepare a range of salads and light lunches. The trainees serve customers, lay and clear tables, learn about money handling and using a till. The trainees also prepare food for in-house buffets for training events and functions that take place within the hospital.
The café is a supportive environment to learn in and trainees have the opportunity to gain confidence in working with the general public. Strong emphasis is placed on building the trainees self-esteem and social skills as well as learning catering skills and customer care.
