V21 Gardening @ Fairwater

Our V21 Gardening @ Fairwater project looks after the community garden that runs the full length of our V21 Sbectrwm Centre, so it’s a perfect project for trainees who enjoy being outdoors in all seasons.

With guidance from Beth, trainees are responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the garden. They help keep the grounds tidy using a variety of gardening tools and know-how, grow plants in the polytunnel, tend to the veg patch, and look after indoor plants. Trainees also develop customer service skills by selling plants to the public.

During the quieter winter months, trainees get creative with seasonal projects such as making “fairy houses.” With plenty of support from volunteers, the project is a friendly, welcoming community space where trainees can learn new skills, get involved, and enjoy being part of the garden.

Trainees build on their interests and strengths, exploring practical skills in:

  • Growing vegetables and plants.
  • Identifying common weeds, beneficial insects and pests.
  • Maintaining and using garden tools.
  • Customer Service.
  • Making up planters & hanging baskets for sale.
  • Planting, hoeing, weeding, watering and tending plants.
  • Preparing ground and beds for seed/plant sowing.
  • Using petrol powered equipment.
  • Using sustainable growing principles.
  • Creating woodcraft items.

When?

Trainees attend V21 Gardening @ Fairwater Monday to Friday from 9:00am – 3:00pm.
